January-May migrant remittances up 39.5 percent from previous year in Kyrgyzstan
(June 28) The chairman of Kyrgyzstan’s national bank reported that the net inflow of migrant remittances increased by 39.5 percent from January to May 2017 compared to the same period in 2016. In addition, the national currency has remained stable, strengthening 0.9 percent against the dollar since January 1. – 24.kg
Uzbekistan to supply fresh produce to Novosibirsk
(June 30) A wholesale and retail complex featuring Uzbek horticultural products is set to open in Novosibirsk, Russia in August. The estimated one billion-ruble (approximately $16.6 million) complex will be the result of an agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and the Novosibirsk region and is part of a larger push to supply Uzbek fruits and vegetables in Siberia. – Fresh Plaza
Turkey contributes additional $10 million to support FAO's work in Central Asia and the Caucasus
(July 3) Turkey announced that it will contribute an additional $10 million toward FAO’s projects improving food security, rural development, and natural resource management in Central Asia and the Caucasus. This will represent the second phase (from 2017 until 2020) of the FAO-Turkey Partnership Programme, which was originally launched in 2009 with $10 million from Turkey. The second phase will cover activities in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. Turkey is also allocating another $10 million to the FAO-Turkey Forestry Programme, bringing its total contribution to $30 million and making it one of the largest non-EU donors for FAO activities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. – ReliefWeb

Afghanistan to export goods to Europe via Turkmenistan, Caucasus, Turkey
(July 3) Afghanistan’s finance ministry announced that Afghan traders will soon be able to export their products to Europe following an agreement signed by Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey.
